The Parx Race and Sportsbook at Malvern will be the first licensed gaming outlet in Chester County. The restaurant is set to open next month in the Grove Shopping Center, on Liberty Boulevard near the interchange of Routes 202 and 29. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Wednesday approved a plan by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc., the parent company of Parx, to open the betting operation in a section of a new Chickie’s & Pete’s restaurant in East Whiteland Township. Parx Casino plans to reopen a shuttered sports and off-track betting operation next month at a new Chickie’s & Pete’s outlet near Malvern, marrying a sportsbook with a popular local sports-bar chain. Pennsylvania gaming regulators on Wednesday approved a similar operation at a Chickie’s & Pete’s in Malvern, which attracted no public opposition. Protesters picket in May outside Chickie’s & Pete’s on Packer avenue in South Philadelphia, where Parx Casino sought to relocate a sportsbook and off-track betting operation from another location in South Philadelphia. Philadelphia rejected a similar plan earlier this year.
